A wide, shallow drum in faux silk sits close under the ceiling, its 45cm shade in ivory pearl over a white laminate lining that pushes light back down into the room. This is the fitting we reach for in rooms with ordinary ceiling heights, where a pendant would hang in the way but a plain flush fitting looks a little mean: a hallway, a bedroom, a landing, a sitting room above a low table. How should I look after the laminate shade?

Dust it with a dry duster or soft brush while the power is off and the lamps are cold. Avoid solvents and household sprays on the laminate, and do not soak it.

Is it a heavy fitting?

No, it weighs 1.4kg complete, which is modest for a shade of this width.

Where should it not be used?

Indoor dry rooms only. It is not made for bathrooms, wet rooms or outdoor spaces such as porches and garden rooms open to damp air.
