Description

A shallow drum shade in ivory pearl faux silk sits on an antique brass frame here, held close to the ceiling so the room above head height stays open. This is a semi flush fitting, which means the shade stands just proud of the ceiling rather than hanging on a flex. Three E27 lamps sit inside, so brightness spreads evenly across the fabric instead of pooling at one point, and a white laminate lining pushes the light back down into the room. At 45cm across it reads as a broad, quiet circle from below.

It earns its place in rooms where a pendant would hang too low: landings, hallways, bedrooms tucked under sloping eaves, or over a table in a low ceilinged cottage. We reach for it most often in bedrooms, where light filtered through fabric is far kinder overhead than a bare lamp. We would fit LED GLS lamps of up to 20W each. It will also dim, provided the lamps you choose are dimmable and paired with a compatible dimmer, both bought separately.

The metalwork wears a warm antique brass, softened rather than bright, which settles happily against older woodwork and painted plaster. Keep the fabric fresh with a soft brush or the upholstery attachment on a vacuum, and give the brass an occasional buff with a dry duster; keep polishes and sprays well away from the shade. It carries a one year warranty. The wider range runs to single light semi flush fittings and linear pendants in this same antique brass, and to universal flush plates in polished chrome and white if you would rather pick a shade of your own.
