Three E27 lamps hang together beneath one wide drum shade here, so the light reads as a single soft pool rather than a row of separate points. The shade is 40cm across, its outer face wrapped in silver leaf with a white laminate lining inside, and the suspension, ceiling plate and lamp holders are finished in polished chrome. The drop is adjustable across a long span, which is why we tend to suggest it for rooms where the ceiling height is unusual in either direction.

It earns its keep over a dining table, in a wide hallway or above a stairwell, and it works in a bedroom where a shade of this width softens the light nicely. We would fit a warm white LED GLS A60 in each holder, rated up to 20W, and choose a clear or frosted lamp depending on how much sparkle you want off the chrome. Dimming is possible if the lamps and the dimmer are chosen to suit each other; the dimmer is a separate purchase.

The frame is metal throughout, polished to a bright mirror sheen that holds its colour well against white or pale grey walls, while the laminate lining stops the shade looking dull once lit. Keep it clean by turning the power off, waiting for the lamps to go cold, then lifting dust from the shade with a soft brush and buffing the chrome with a dry microfibre cloth; nothing wet, and no cream cleaners on the plating. It is made for dry rooms indoors, so we would look elsewhere for a bathroom zone or a porch. It carries a one year warranty. How far can the pendant hang below the ceiling?

The drop is adjustable from 390mm at its shortest to 3310mm at its longest, so it suits both a low landing and a tall hallway or stairwell.

What size is the shade?

It measures 400mm in diameter and 180mm deep, with the body of the fitting standing 355mm tall.

Which lamps should I use?

Three E27 lamps are needed, each rated no higher than 20W. We recommend LED GLS A60 lamps, which suit the shade's proportions and stay tidy inside it.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps with a compatible dimmer switch. No dimmer is supplied with the pendant.

How do I look after the silver leaf shade?

Dust it gently with a soft brush or a dry cloth. Avoid water, sprays and polishes, as the leaf finish and the laminate lining are both easily marked.
