Description

Three shades sit in a row along a slender polished chrome bar, each 30cm across and finished in silver foil over a white laminate lining. The chrome is bright and reflective, so the fitting catches daylight as readily as lamplight. Suspension is adjustable, so the shades can hang low over a surface or be shortened to sit nearer the ceiling. Each holder takes an E27 lamp up to 20W, and an LED GLS is the sensible choice here.

It is made for rooms with length to fill: above a dining table, along a kitchen island, or down the centre of a wide hallway. We would choose it where a single pendant would leave the ends of a long table dim, because the light runs along the bar rather than pooling in one place. With suitable lamps and a separate dimmer fitted, the output can be brought down for evening meals. It belongs in dry, heated rooms, so a bathroom or a covered porch is not the place for it.

The bar and ceiling plate are polished chrome throughout, and the pale laminate inside each shade keeps the spread of light soft and even. Dust the foil with a dry cloth, gently and in one direction, and give the chrome an occasional wipe so fingerprints do not settle on the reflective surface. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the Baymont range in flush ceiling versions in the same polished chrome, one of them with a larger silver leaf shade, for rooms where a hanging fitting would sit too low. Lamps are not included.
