Three lamps sit behind a frosted acrylic diffuser under a shallow faux silk shade, so the light spreads sideways across the ceiling as well as down into the room. The shade is ivory pearl on the outside with a white laminate lining, a soft neutral that warms slightly once the lamps are lit. At 30cm across it reads as a broad, low drum rather than a deep one, held close to the ceiling. From below you see fabric and the pale disc of the diffuser, and little else.

This is the fitting we reach for in rooms where a pendant would sit in the way: hallways and landings, a bedroom under a low ceiling, a small dining room or a study. It takes E27 lamps, and we would fit LED GLS globes for an even glow through the diffuser. With suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer on the circuit the output can be brought down, which helps in a bedroom. It is wired for dry indoor rooms on a household supply and needs an earth connection.

Construction is straightforward: a white frame, the fabric covered shade, and the frosted acrylic panel below that keeps the lamps out of direct view. Dust the acrylic with a soft brush or a vacuum on its lowest setting, and lift marks from the fabric gently rather than working at them with anything damp. It carries a one year warranty. How much does it drop below the ceiling?

The overall height is 170mm, with a diameter of 300mm, so it stays tight against the ceiling and suits rooms with limited headroom.

What lamps should I use, and how powerful can they be?

It takes three E27 lamps, each up to 20W. LED GLS A60 globes are the recommended choice and give the most even spread through the frosted diffuser.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer on the circuit. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer come with the fitting.

How do I clean the fabric shade?

Keep it dry. A soft brush or a low suction vacuum will lift dust, and any marks should be dabbed rather than rubbed. Avoid sprays and solvents.

No. With an IP20 rating it is intended for dry rooms only, so keep it to hallways, bedrooms and living spaces.
