Description

Three E27 lamps sit behind a wide drum shade finished in gold leaf, lined in white laminate so the light is thrown back down into the room. The frame beneath is antique brass, warm and slightly aged rather than bright, and the fitting holds close to the ceiling instead of dropping on a rod or flex. At 40cm across, the shade reads as a broad band of soft brass tone overhead, with enough presence to settle a room without crowding it.

We reach for this where a pendant would hang too low: landings, hallways, bedrooms under a lower ceiling, and dining rooms where light wants spreading across the table rather than pooling in one spot. Having a trio of lamps behind one shade gives you plenty to work with, and it will dim if you pair suitable lamps with a compatible dimmer, which is worth doing in a bedroom. We would fit LED GLS lamps here, rated no higher than 20W each.

The shade combines a gold leaf outer face with a white laminate inner, and the metalwork carries the antique brass finish through the body and ceiling plate. Keep it looking well with an occasional dust using a dry duster or a clean make-up brush around the shade edge, and leave metal polishes and household sprays well away from the brass, as they will dull it. It carries a one year warranty.
