Description

Three E27 lampholders sit behind a frosted acrylic diffuser, with a faux silk drum shade over the top in black and a white laminate lining that pushes light back down into the room. At 40cm across and 18cm deep, it stays close to the ceiling while still reading as a proper fabric shade rather than a flat plate. The diffuser keeps the lamps out of sight from below, so what you see is a soft wash rather than bright points.

This is the fitting for rooms where a pendant would hang into the way: hallways and landings, bedrooms with a lower ceiling, a small kitchen, a study or a spare room. We reach for it when a space wants the warmth of fabric without the drop, and it works as well over a bed as it does above a stairwell. With suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer it can be taken down for the evening, and we would fit standard LED GLS lamps here for everyday use.

The shade is fabric over a black and white laminate, and the black finish carries on across the metalwork, so the whole thing sits quietly against a pale ceiling. The fabric takes a soft brush now and then, and the acrylic a lightly damp cloth dried straight after, both done with the power off and the lamps no longer hot. It carries a one year warranty. The wider range gives you plain universal fixtures in polished chrome, satin nickel, antique brass and white, ready for a shade of your own choosing, along with linear pendant versions for a longer run over a table. Lamps are not included.

Three lamps with an E27 screw socket, up to 20W each. We would use LED GLS (A60) lamps, which are the familiar pear shape and fit the diffuser well.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and a dimmer switch that suits them. No dimmer is supplied with the fitting.

How much ceiling height does it need?

It projects 180mm from the ceiling and measures 400mm in diameter, so it clears heads easily in a hallway or a low bedroom.

What is the shade made from?

A faux silk outer in black over a black and white laminate, with a frosted acrylic diffuser beneath the lamps.

How should the shade be cleaned?

Brush the fabric gently with a soft brush or a clean upholstery attachment. Avoid sprays and solvents on the faux silk; the acrylic can be wiped with a lightly damp cloth and dried.

No. It is rated for dry rooms only, so keep it to hallways, bedrooms, kitchens and living spaces away from steam and splashes.
