Description

The Basmorne is a square flush ceiling light: a compact aluminium box in black, with a copper-coloured lining inside its open base. It measures 10cm long, 10cm wide and 12cm high, so it sits neatly against the ceiling rather than hanging down into the room. It takes a GU10 bulb, which is not included, so you choose the brightness and colour of light yourself. The rating is IP20, which settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms only.

Because the base is open, the light shines downward, and the copper lining shows as a warm square of colour whenever you look up at the fitting. We like it in hallways, on landings, in living rooms and over a kitchen worktop, and it looks particularly good in a row along a corridor or above a dining table. At just 12cm high it keeps headroom on lower ceilings, where a pendant would get in the way. The black and copper pairing sits comfortably alongside dark woodwork, brass and copper accents, and pared-back industrial schemes.

The body is aluminium, a light metal that does not rust, and the whole light weighs 0.55KG, so it puts very little load on the ceiling. There is no switch on the fitting itself; it is switched at the wall, so it works from the room's wall switch. It runs on mains power at 220-240V, 50/60Hz and, as a wired fitting, should be installed by a qualified electrician. The installation instructions are available as a download. A practical note: order a GU10 bulb at the same time, because the bulb is not included.
