Description

The Basmorne is a round flush ceiling light, a neat black cylinder of aluminium that sits tight to the ceiling and sends its light straight down through an open base. Inside, the reflector carries a silver leaf effect, so the black outside gives way to a bright, crackled shimmer whenever the bulb is lit. It stands 12cm high and measures 10cm in diameter, compact enough to look tidy in a small room or a narrow hallway. It takes a single GU10 bulb, which is not included, so you choose the brightness and the warmth of light yourself. Its IP20 rating settles it: this is an indoor light.

We like it in hallways, on landings and in bedrooms, studies and living rooms, anywhere a pendant would feel heavy or hang too low. One gives a focused pool of light over a chair, a console table or a doorway; several in a line along a corridor build an even, ordered rhythm of light. The black and silver pairing is monochrome, so it sits comfortably in modern and industrial schemes, next to black picture frames, metal shelving and dark door handles. It is also a tidy choice where a recessed downlight is not an option, because it sits on the ceiling surface rather than inside it.

The body is aluminium and the whole light weighs 0.45KG, so it is easy to hold in place while it is fitted. It has no switch of its own: it is switched at the wall, so it runs from the light switch you already use. It takes mains power at 220-240V, 50/60Hz, and as a wired-in light it is installed by a qualified electrician. The installation instructions come as a download.
