Description

A square face, 92mm across each side, in satin nickel with polished chrome, holding a lamp that swivels within the frame. That movement is the point: the beam tilts off vertical and can be aimed at a worktop, a painting or the spines of a bookcase instead of falling straight down. A lampholder comes fitted, so all it wants is one GU10 lamp. We would reach for an LED reflector here, and it will dim provided the lamp you choose is a dimmable type.

Square faces suit rooms with straight lines already in play: a kitchen of plain fronted cabinets, a hallway with panelled joinery, a study, a landing. Because the light aims, it earns its keep over prep areas and along walls of pictures, where a fixed head would leave the top of a frame in shadow. Anyone lighting a whole room will find these easy to use in numbers, since the swivel lets you correct for furniture that never sits quite where the plan said it would. Keep them to dry rooms indoors: kitchens and halls yes, a shower zone no.

Satin nickel gives a soft grey sheen against the brighter chrome, quiet enough not to pull the eye upward while still reading as proper hardware. Wipe the face with a dry cloth now and then so dust does not dull the finish, and let the lamp go cold before you handle it. It carries a one year warranty.
