Description

The Basic Form is a 20cm frosted opal glass globe wall light mounted on a polished gold metal backplate. The single E14 bulb fitting inside the globe (bulb sold separately, max 40W) casts light through the frosted glass, diffusing it evenly in all directions to provide soft ambient illumination rather than directed task light.

Designed for hallways, bedrooms, bathrooms (IP20 rated for dry zones only) and living rooms where wall-mounted ambient light is needed without downward glare, the fitting projects 23cm from the wall and sits 20cm high, making it suitable for narrow corridors and spaces where projection depth is limited. The backplate diameter is approximately 8cm, allowing it to be fitted over a standard UK wall light back box.

The polished gold finish on the metal backplate provides a warm metallic accent that pairs with brass door furniture, gold-toned mirrors and warm-coloured interiors. The frosted opal glass hides the bulb from view when lit and softens the light output, reducing harsh shadows and glare. The 20cm globe diameter gives the fitting presence on the wall without overwhelming smaller rooms or narrower hallways.

The fitting takes a single E14 small Edison screw bulb up to 40W, sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 4-6W and 2700K-3000K for ambient hallway or bedroom lighting.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

The IP20 rating makes it suitable only for dry zones in bathrooms (outside zones 0, 1 and 2), such as on a wall more than 600mm from a bath or shower. It is not rated for wet or splash zones.

How far does it project from the wall?

The fitting projects 23cm from the wall surface to the furthest point of the globe. This makes it suitable for hallways and corridors where projection depth is limited, but it may need clearance consideration in narrow spaces with regular traffic.

Is the glass replaceable if damaged?

The frosted opal glass globe is typically a separate component that can be unscrewed from the backplate. Replacement glass can be sourced through Maytoni or compatible third-party suppliers, though availability depends on the specific model series.
