Description

The Basel is a 310mm-tall outdoor wall light with a frosted glass cylinder set into a brushed stainless steel rectangular backplate. The fitting carries an IP54 rating, providing dust and water splash protection for installation on exterior walls, covered porches and garden boundaries. A single E27 bulb (sold separately) sits behind the frosted glass, which diffuses the light output evenly.

Designed for entrances, patio walls, garage exteriors and pathways, the Basel mounts vertically on a standard outdoor junction box and projects 120mm from the wall surface. The frosted glass shields the bulb from direct view while allowing the light to spread both upward and downward along the wall face, creating a soft wash effect that helps with night-time navigation without harsh glare. The stainless steel construction resists corrosion in coastal and damp environments.

The rectangular profile measures 210mm wide and pairs well with contemporary, modern and minimalist architecture. The brushed stainless finish reduces fingerprint visibility and weathers consistently without discolouration. The E27 socket accepts LED, halogen or filament bulbs up to 60W, and dimmer compatibility depends on the chosen bulb type. What does the IP54 rating mean for outdoor use?

IP54 provides protection against dust ingress and water splashes from any direction. The Basel is suitable for sheltered outdoor positions such as covered porches, patio walls and entrance canopies. It is not rated for full submersion or direct hose-down, but will withstand rain, condensation and general UK weather conditions.

What bulb should I use?

The Basel takes a standard E27 bulb up to 60W. Most users fit a warm-white LED (2700K-3000K) between 6-10W for outdoor ambient lighting. Choose a bulb rated for outdoor use if the fitting will be exposed to temperature fluctuations.

Can it be used on a brick or rendered wall?

Yes. The Basel mounts to a standard outdoor junction box, which can be fixed into brick, block, render or timber cladding using appropriate fixings. The backplate covers the junction box once installed.

Is the light dimmable?

Dimming depends on the bulb you choose. LED bulbs marked 'dimmable' will work with compatible LED dimmer switches. Non-dimmable bulbs will not respond to a dimmer and may flicker if fitted to one.
