Description
The Basel is a rectangular outdoor wall light with a frosted glass panel set within a galvanised silver metal frame. Two horizontal silver bands cross the frosted glass, creating a layered geometric design that breaks the rectangular form into three zones. The fitting is IP54 rated, meaning it resists dust ingress and water spray from any direction, making it suitable for UK exterior walls exposed to rain and wind.
Designed for mounting beside front doors, porch entrances, garage side doors and along garden paths, the Basel provides downward and forward light projection from a single E27 bulb (sold separately) behind the frosted glass. The 120mm projection from the wall gives clearance for the bulb to sit without touching the diffuser, while the 210mm width covers the typical brick spacing around a standard doorframe. The frosted glass softens the bulb filament and reduces direct glare at eye level when approaching the door.
The galvanised silver finish on the metal frame provides corrosion resistance in coastal and high-humidity locations, and the neutral tone pairs with white render, grey cladding, brick and timber facades. The Basel accepts any standard E27 LED, halogen or filament bulb up to 60W (most users choose 6-10W LED for economy), giving control over light temperature and brightness. Norlys backs the fitting with an 8-year guarantee covering manufacturing defects and weatherproofing integrity.

Frequently Asked
What does the IP54 rating mean?
IP54 means the fitting is dust-protected (not fully dust-tight, but limited ingress) and protected against water spray from any direction. This makes it suitable for exterior walls under eaves, beside doorways and on covered porches, but not for fully exposed locations where the fitting would face sustained direct rain or submersion.
What bulb does it take?
The Basel takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair it with a 6-10W warm-white LED (2700K-3000K) for outdoor entrance lighting.
Can it be installed on any exterior wall?
Yes, provided the wall has a suitable electrical supply routed to the mounting position. The 120mm projection means it suits most brick, render and cladding installations. The fitting weighs approximately 1.5kg, so standard wall plugs and screws are adequate for brick and blockwork.
Is the frosted glass replaceable if damaged?
The frosted glass panel is a separate component within the metal frame, so it can be replaced if cracked or damaged. Contact Norlys directly or Niori customer service for replacement parts under the 8-year guarantee.
