Description

The Basel is an outdoor wall light with a silver-finish metal frame surrounding a clear glass cylinder, housing a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately). The IP54 rating protects against dust ingress and water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for exterior walls, covered porches, and pathway lighting exposed to British weather.

Designed for domestic porches, garage entries, and garden pathways where directional wall-mounted light is needed, the Basel mounts on a standard UK back box and projects 120mm from the wall once fitted. The 310mm height and clear glass allow the light to spread both upward and downward along the wall plane, useful for illuminating steps or highlighting architectural features near doorways. The E27 fitting accepts any standard Edison screw bulb up to 60W, including dimmable LED bulbs when paired with a compatible outdoor-rated dimmer.

The silver finish is a powder-coated aluminium that resists corrosion in coastal and high-moisture environments better than painted mild steel. Two horizontal bands wrap the glass cylinder at mid-height, adding structural bracing and a subtle geometric detail without blocking light output. Norlys manufactures the Basel in Denmark and backs it with an 8-year guarantee covering material and finish degradation under normal outdoor exposure.

Frequently Asked

What does IP54 protection cover?

IP54 means the fitting is dust-protected (IP5X) and protected against water splashes from any direction (IPX4). This makes the Basel suitable for outdoor use on exterior walls, under eaves, and in covered porch areas. It is not suitable for full exposure to direct heavy rain or submersion.

What bulb should I use?

The Basel takes any standard E27 Edison screw bulb up to 60W. Most users choose a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for outdoor pathways and porch lighting. Bulbs are sold separately.

Can it be used with a dimmer?

Yes, provided you use a dimmable E27 bulb and pair it with an outdoor-rated dimmer switch suitable for the bulb type (LED dimmers for LED bulbs, halogen dimmers for halogen bulbs).

How is the silver finish maintained?

The powder-coated aluminium finish requires minimal maintenance. Wipe with a damp cloth to remove dust or salt residue in coastal locations. Avoid abrasive cleaners or wire brushes that could scratch the coating.
