Description
The Barranco is a round recessed downlight that sits almost flush with the ceiling, leaving only a slim brushed satin nickel bezel and inner ring on show. It measures 8.4cm across, and its plastic body carries a satin nickel colour, so it reads as metal on the ceiling. It takes a GU10 lamp, and the light is rated at 4.5W with an output of 345lm, a modest figure that works best when several downlights are spaced across a ceiling. The IP44 rating settles where it can go: it is protected from splashing water, so it is not confined to dry rooms.
That rating means we are happy to suggest it for a bathroom ceiling, where a qualified electrician will confirm the right zone, as well as kitchens, hallways, landings and living rooms. Satin nickel is softer and less reflective than polished chrome, so it sits comfortably beside brushed taps, nickel handles and white or grey schemes. A run of these over a worktop or along a corridor gives even background light, and because there is no switch on the downlight itself, the whole run comes on together from your existing wall switch.
Before you order, it is worth checking the space above the ceiling: the downlight needs a hole 6.8cm across and 8.5cm of clear depth, so joists, pipes and insulation have to leave that much room. It runs on mains power at 220-240V, 50/60Hz, carries an energy class of F and weighs 0.188KG packed. Two spring clips hold the body in the ceiling. As a wired-in mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download, handy to read before the work is booked.
