Description

The Barbour is a single-light wall bracket built around a slender weathered brass frame that runs 676mm from the circular backplate to the top of the white fabric shade. A clear blown glass sphere sits mid-frame between the backplate and the shade, creating a visual break in the vertical line. The E14 bulb sits inside the shade at the top of the frame, with the fabric diffusing light upwards and downwards.

Designed for hallways, bedrooms and living rooms where wall space allows a taller fitting, the Barbour works best mounted at approximately 1.5-1.8m from floor level to give headroom below while directing light both up and down the wall. The 230mm projection from the wall means it needs clearance from adjacent doorframes or furniture. The weathered brass finish shows deliberate tonal variation across the metal, reading as a warm amber-gold with darker patina in the recesses.

The clear glass sphere is hand-blown, so each piece shows slight variation in bubble distribution and wall thickness. The white fabric shade is a tapered drum approximately 200mm in diameter at the base, lined to prevent the bulb showing through as a hotspot. The steel frame gives the fitting a total weight that requires secure fixing into a solid wall or appropriately anchored plasterboard. From Quoizel, the Barbour is part of a transitional range that bridges traditional proportions with mid-century material choices.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does it take?

The Barbour takes a single E14 (small Edison screw) bulb up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED candle bulb between 4-6W and 2700K for ambient lighting in hallways and bedrooms.

How far does it project from the wall?

The fitting projects 230mm from the wall to the front of the shade. This requires clearance from doorframes, picture rails and furniture positioned close to the wall.

At what height should it be mounted?

The 676mm height works best when the backplate is mounted 1.5-1.8m from floor level, placing the shade at approximately 2.2m. This gives adequate headroom below while directing light both up and down the wall surface.

Is the glass sphere part of the light path?

The clear glass sphere is decorative rather than functional — the bulb sits inside the fabric shade above it. The sphere adds a mid-century detail to the vertical brass frame but does not affect light distribution.
