Description

This cheerful Christmas tree decoration is shaped like an old-fashioned arrow sign, with the words BAR OPEN set out in bold white capitals across a red face. A bright yellow border runs all the way round the edge, and a line of raised silver dots, like the bulbs on a vintage fairground sign, follows the bend of the arrow. Near the tip sits a little green cocktail glass, and a fine scatter of glitter catches the twinkle of the tree lights. It measures 14cm tall, 14cm wide and just 1.5cm deep, so it is easy to read from across the room yet slim enough to sit neatly among the branches.

We think it belongs on the tree in any home where Christmas means friends dropping in and a festive drink being poured. Hang it on a branch nearest the drinks trolley or the sideboard and it points the way to the celebrations with a wink. It adds a playful, colourful note to a tree full of traditional baubles, and it sits happily alongside other retro and kitsch ornaments if you like your Christmas bright and a little cheeky. As a small Christmas present, it tucks neatly into a stocking or a festive hamper.

It hangs from a gold-coloured cord threaded through a loop on a small gold cap at the top, so it is ready to go straight onto a branch. The lettering, the silver dots and the cocktail glass stand slightly proud of the red face, giving the sign a little depth when the light falls across it. To keep it looking its best, dust it gently with a soft dry cloth and wrap it carefully when the tree comes down, so it is ready to come out again next year. Hang it at eye level with the arrow pointing towards wherever the drinks are kept, and let it do the talking.
