Description

Five polished chrome arms curve out from a central stem and sit inside a wide faux silk drum, so the light spreads across the whole width of the shade rather than pooling in one spot. The shade is a dual build: nude beige on the outside, a softer moonlight tone within, which warms the candle lamps held behind it. At 60cm across it is a generous piece, broad and low in profile.

It earns its keep over a dining table, in a wide hallway with the height to carry it, or centred in a large bedroom where a narrower fitting would look mean. The chain lets you set the drop to the room, sitting close to the ceiling or hanging well down over a table top. Fit dimmable lamps and it will work with a dimmer, which is what we would do in a dining room where the level wants to come down once the plates are cleared. It is one we reach for when a room needs width rather than height.

The frame is metal under its polished chrome plating, bright enough to catch daylight and lamplight alike, while the faux silk shade keeps the light soft. Chrome holds its shine with an occasional wipe from a barely damp cloth, dried off straight away; the fabric prefers a soft brush, or a vacuum on its lowest setting, to lift dust from the weave. Sprays and polishes are best kept clear of both. It carries a one year warranty, and it belongs indoors, in rooms that stay dry and well away from steam. We would pair it with slim candle lamps so the arms read as part of the design, in a warmer white if you want the beige to look mellower. Lamps are not included.
