Description

Five E14 lamps sit within a broad faux silk shade in ivory pearl, lined with white laminate, carried on polished chrome arms and hung from a chain. At 60cm across it is a wide, shallow shape, so it fills a room horizontally rather than dropping into the middle of it. The pale fabric keeps the light soft, while the chrome catches what daylight there is. It is calm rather than loud, and reads as pale and neutral from across a room.

We reach for this one over a dining table, where a wide shade spreads light across the whole surface, and in a landing or a generously sized bedroom where a slimmer pendant would look lost. The 1.5m chain gives scope to set the height to suit the ceiling and whatever sits below. The lamps together give plenty of output for a main light, and if you want to bring the level down of an evening, dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer will do it. We would choose LED candle lamps in a warm tone here.

The frame is metal in a polished chrome finish, and the shade is faux silk over a laminate lining that keeps it in shape. Dust shows on pale fabric, so go over it gently with a soft brush from time to time; the chrome wants a dry cloth only, with nothing damp or abrasive near it. Keep the fitting to indoor rooms that stay dry, and turn the power off at the wall before you change a lamp. It carries a one year warranty. Paired with clear glass and pale timber it stays quiet in the background, while against darker joinery the ivory does the lifting.
