Five arms sit beneath one broad faux silk shade, so the light spreads sideways across a room rather than falling in a narrow pool. The shade is 60cm across, finished in nude beige with a paler moonlight inner face, while the arms and ceiling plate are champagne gold. It takes E14 candle lamps, and the drop can be set short under a modest ceiling or run long over a table.

We would hang this over a dining table first, where the width of the shade covers a full setting and the warm neutral fabric keeps the light gentle on faces. It suits a hallway with height to give, or a sitting room where a smaller pendant would look lost. It is a fitting that works best where there is room around it, so give it space on the ceiling. Fit dimmable lamps and it will work on a dimmer, useful in a room that goes from homework to supper to late evening. For everyday use we would choose warm white candle lamps, which flatter both the beige fabric and the gold.

Faux silk carries a slight sheen, so the shade reads soft rather than flat and picks up a little of the gold above it. Keep the fabric dry when you clean it: a soft brush, or a vacuum upholstery head held lightly against the drum, lifts dust without flattening the weave, and the gold parts need no more than a dry cloth. Marks are best left alone rather than damped, as faux silk can water-stain. It carries a one year warranty. Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and use a compatible dimmer. No dimmer is included.

How far does it hang below the ceiling?

The drop is adjustable from 340mm to 1800mm, so it can be trimmed for a low ceiling or extended over a dining table.

What size is the shade?

It measures 600mm in diameter with a shade depth of 150mm, and the fitting body stands 220mm high.

Is it suitable for a bathroom or a covered porch?

No. With an IP20 rating and a fabric shade, it belongs in dry indoor rooms such as dining rooms, bedrooms and landings.

How do I keep the faux silk looking fresh?

Dust it lightly with a soft brush or a vacuum upholstery head. Avoid sprays, solvents and damp cloths, which can leave a tidemark on the weave.
