Description

Five arms fan out below a single wide drum of faux silk fabric, so the light spreads across a room rather than pooling in one spot. The cloth is a soft nude beige with a paler lining, and the multi arm frame beneath it is matt black, which keeps the metalwork quiet against the fabric. The shade measures 60cm across, and the drop can be set to suit the ceiling, out to 1.8m at full extension.

Its width makes it a natural choice above a dining table or a kitchen island, and it works just as well as the main light in a sitting room or over a stairwell where a narrow pendant would look lost. We tend to reach for it in rooms with height to spare, since the shade is best appreciated from below. E14 candle lamps sit inside the shade rather than showing beneath it, and if you want the level to move through the evening, fit dimmable lamps and pair them with a compatible dimmer.

The fabric is stretched over the drum evenly so the surface stays smooth, and the black finish on the arms and ceiling plate has no shine to catch the eye. Keep the cloth fresh with a lint roller or the brush head of a vacuum on its lowest setting, going gently around the seam; the painted metal wants nothing more than a dry cloth once in a while, with the power off first. Warm white lamps flatter the beige best, and the pale lining bounces a little extra light back down onto the table. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included, so choose your candle lamps at the same time.
