Description

Five slender arms reach out from a polished chrome stem, each taking a small candle lamp beneath one broad faux silk shade. At 60cm across, that shade is wide enough to draw all the lamps into a single soft wash of light rather than a row of bright points. The fabric is grey with a white laminate finish, and the chrome carries the shine at the arms and chain. It hangs from a chain, and the drop can be shortened or let out to suit the room.

We would hang it centrally over a dining table, or in a wide hallway where there is room for its width to read as calm rather than fussy. The adjustable chain lets it sit low over a table or pull up where headroom is tighter. Dimming works if you fit dimmable lamps with a suitable dimmer, which is how we would run it in a dining room: bright for the meal, low afterwards. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, not a bathroom or anywhere it would meet weather.

The metal frame is finished in polished chrome and kept plain, so the shade does the talking. Fabric shades hold dust, so give it a light brush or a pass with the soft upholstery head of a vacuum, and wipe the chrome with a dry microfibre cloth to keep the shine even. Nothing damp on the faux silk. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included; we would fit opal candle LEDs in E14 for an even glow within the shade, and leave the chrome to do the rest.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and use them with a compatible dimmer. No dimmer is included.

How do I clean the fabric shade?

Brush it gently or use the soft upholstery head of a vacuum. Keep water, sprays and polishes away from the faux silk, and use a dry cloth on the chrome.
