Description

Five slender arms curve out from a central stem in antique brass, each holding a candle lamp, and the whole cluster sits beneath one broad drum shade. That shade is 60cm across, faux silk with a grey outer face and a white laminate inner. It hangs on a 1.5m chain, so the height can be set to suit the room it goes into.

It suits rooms with some ceiling height: over a dining table, down a stairwell, or centred in a sitting room where a smaller pendant would look lost. We reach for a shade this wide when the furniture below is generous, because the light comes down as a soft pool rather than a tight spot. Chain links can be taken out to shorten the drop. Candle lamps with E14 caps do the work here, and the fitting will dim if you pair dimmable lamps with a compatible dimmer.

The frame is metal finished in antique brass, warm and lightly aged rather than bright, and the shade is faux silk drawn over a wide drum. For care, lift dust from the fabric with a soft brush or the upholstery tool on a vacuum, and keep the metalwork to a dry cloth; polishes and sprays only dull an aged finish. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, well away from bathrooms and covered porches, on ordinary household wiring. It carries a one year warranty. We would choose it where a table needs one generous shade rather than a row of small ones, and a set of warm white LED candles will keep the grey reading soft rather than cold. Lamps are not included.
