Description

Five arms spread from a satin nickel centre, each holding a candle lamp within a single broad drum shade of black faux silk, lined in white laminate. At 60cm across it reads as a wide, calm circle rather than a busy cluster, and the shallow proportion of the shade keeps it looking light for its size. The chain suspension can be shortened or let down, so the shade hangs low over a table or sits up nearer the ceiling.

We reach for a pendant this wide where a room has space to fill: over a long dining table, in a square hallway with height to spare, or centred in a sitting room. The lamps together give a soft, even spread rather than one hard pool, which suits rooms where you want light for talking and eating rather than close work. We would hang it a little above eye level over a table, so the lamps stay tucked out of view. It will dim if you fit dimmable lamps and pair them with a suitable dimmer, and both are worth planning for at the outset. Indoors, in dry rooms, is where it belongs.

The frame and arms are finished in satin nickel, a softer sheen than chrome and a good foil to the black outer. The faux silk holds its shape, and the white laminate lining pushes light back down. Dust it with a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum on low, and wipe the metalwork with a barely damp cloth, always with the power off and the lamps cool. It carries a one year warranty. Candle lamps with E14 caps are needed and are not supplied; we would choose warm white LED candles.
