Description

A polished chrome centre spreads five arms outward, each one carrying its own faux silk shade in black with a white laminate lining, so the light gathers a little warmth on the way down. It measures 60cm across the full spread, giving it presence above a table without swallowing the room. The fitting hangs on chain, so the drop can be taken up or let out to suit the ceiling height. Each shade takes a small candle lamp on an E14 socket.

We would hang this over a dining table or in a wide hallway, where one shade alone would look mean, and it sits happily in a sitting room with the arms filling the space above a low coffee table. It comes with 1.5m of chain, which covers a tall stairwell as readily as a standard room. Dimming is possible if you fit dimmable lamps; a dimmer is not included. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, away from bathrooms and anywhere that carries steam.

The metalwork is finished in bright polished chrome, and the shades are faux silk laminated over a white inner face, which keeps the black looking crisp when seen from below. To clean, switch off at the wall and let everything cool, then wipe the chrome with a soft dry cloth and lift dust from the fabric with a clean brush; avoid sprays and solvents, as they mark laminate. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included, and we would choose candle LEDs so the shape stays right inside the shades. Turn the arms slightly out of line with one another and the whole thing reads looser and less formal.
