Description

Five lampholders sit on antique brass arms gathered under one broad shade, so this reads as a single soft disc of light rather than a row of separate lamps. The shade is faced in silver foil with a white lining, which lifts the brass without going cold. At 60cm across, and shallow in height, it spreads wide while staying tidy overhead. It hangs on a chain, and the drop can be set short or long as the room asks. Candle lamps are the shape to use here, and we would fit LED versions.

Over a dining table it is a good width, throwing light towards the edges of the setting rather than down a narrow cone. It also earns its place in a wide hallway, on a landing with a bit of height to play with, or in a sitting room where a smaller pendant would look lost. Because the shade is broad and low rather than deep, it sits happily under ordinary ceilings as well as tall ones. Dimmable lamps will bring the whole thing down to a low glow for the evening, the dimming being a matter of the lamps you choose.

The frame is metal in an antique brass finish, warm and slightly dulled, with the foil shade doing the reflecting. Each holder takes up to 20W, which is plenty for candle LEDs. Use a dry duster on the shade and work lightly over the foil; keep polish and damp cloths away from the brass so the aged tone stays as it is. It carries a one year warranty. Paired with clear candle lamps you get a little sparkle inside the shade, while opaque ones keep the light plain and even, and that choice changes the character of the fitting more than anything else. Lamps are not included.

Which lamps does it take?

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer are supplied.

How should the silver foil shade be cleaned?

Dust it dry with a soft cloth or a duster, using a light hand. Water, sprays and polishes can mark foil, so keep them off both the shade and the brass.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is intended for dry indoor rooms such as dining rooms, hallways and sitting rooms, away from steam and splashes.
