Five arms sweep out from a matt black centre and lift into a single wide fabric shade, so you get the spread of a chandelier under a softer face. The faux silk is ivory pearl outside, lined in white laminate, which sends the light back warm and even. At 60cm across it reads as a broad, generous shape from the doorway, while the black metalwork stays quietly behind it. Each arm takes a small E14 candle lamp, and we would fit LED candles here for a low, steady draw.

This is the shade we suggest for a dining table or a long kitchen island, where a row of small pendants would fuss up the ceiling and a narrow shade would look mean. The drop can be shortened or let out, so it works over a table at eating height or hung higher in a hall with room to spare. It is happy in a bedroom too, sitting over the foot of the bed rather than the pillows. Dimming is possible if you pair dimmable lamps with a suitable dimmer, neither of which comes with it.

The frame and ceiling plate are finished in matt black, and the shade is a faux silk over a laminate lining, deep enough across to hold its round shape well. To clean, switch off and let everything cool, then lift the dust off the fabric with a soft brush and give the arms a wipe with a dry cloth; damp cloths and sprays are best kept away from the silk. We keep this one to dry indoor rooms, away from bathrooms and porches. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included.

Which lamps should I buy for it?

It takes five E14 candle lamps, C35 shape, up to 20W each. LED candles are the sensible choice, and they should be dimmable if you intend to use a dimmer.
