Description

The Banyan gathers five candle lamps beneath one broad drum shade, so a single soft wash of light does the work of a cluster. The shade is faux silk in grey with a pale laminate lining that lifts the light as it drops, and the metalwork above and around it is finished in champagne gold, a warmer and quieter tone than brass. At 60cm across it reads as a generous circle rather than a slim cylinder, wide enough to sit in proportion over a long table or a deep sofa.

This is the sort of pendant we reach for over a dining table, where a wide shade spreads light across the whole surface instead of pooling it in the middle. It also suits a tall hallway or a landing with height to spare, since the drop adjusts across a long range and can be set high and out of the way or brought down to hang low. Five lamps mean plenty of output for a room used in the evening, and with dimmable lamps fitted you can take the level down for eating and talking.

The frame is metal, the shade fabric over a candle fitting arrangement that keeps the lamps tucked up out of sight. Keep the fabric fresh with a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum on its lowest setting, working around the drum in one direction, and lift marks from the metal with a barely damp cloth before drying it off. Use it in dry rooms indoors, away from bathrooms and anywhere steamy. It carries a one year warranty.
