Description

Three slim arms curve up from a matt black centre and hold their lamps inside a broad organza shade in grey. At 45cm across, the shade is wide enough to read as the main shape in a room, while the fine fabric keeps the light soft rather than hard. Small candle lamps with an E14 cap sit beneath it, so the glow filters through the weave instead of striking down in one beam. The matt finish keeps the black quiet against the pale grey fabric, and the two sit together in a plain monochrome palette.

We reach for this one over a dining table, where the width of the shade suits a round or rectangular top, and it does the same job well in a hallway or above a stairwell landing. The drop is adjustable across a wide span when it goes up, so it can hang low over a table or be taken well up for a shallower ceiling. It will dim, as long as dimmable lamps and a suitable dimmer are used; neither is supplied with the fitting. For a warm, easy light in the evening we would choose LED candles.

The shade is a light organza in grey, and the body and arms are metal in matt black. Fabric of this kind gathers dust rather than shedding it, so an occasional going over with a soft brush, or a vacuum upholstery tool on the lowest suction, keeps the weave looking fresh; do this with the power off and the lamps cold. Keep water and household sprays away from the fabric, as a dry brush is all it asks for. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included, and we would keep them matched in colour temperature so the shade lights evenly.
