Description

Three arms sweep upward from a central stem finished in antique brass, each holding a candle lamp under one broad shade of black organza. At 45cm across and shallow in profile, the shade reads as a wide band of fabric rather than a deep drum, and the fine weave keeps the metalwork visible behind it. Small E14 candle lamps sit within, so the light is spread across the width of the shade instead of falling from a single point. The drop is adjustable, which gives room to set it low or keep it tight to the ceiling.

We would hang this over a dining table or a hall table, where the width of the shade suits a surface below it and the brass picks up other warm metal in the room. It works in a bedroom too, centred over the foot of the bed. Black on brass is a firm contrast, so it holds its own against pale walls and joinery as readily as it does against darker paintwork. Fit dimmable candle lamps and a compatible dimmer if you want the option of lowering the level for evenings.

The frame is metal in an antique brass finish, warm and slightly aged rather than bright, and the shade itself is organza in black. Organza is a light fabric, so treat it gently: a lambswool duster or the soft brush attachment of a vacuum lifts dust without pulling the weave. It carries a one year warranty. Keep it indoors and away from steam and splashes. The same pendant is offered with a faux silk shade in black, white or grey, and there is a bare version without a shade in a choice of metal finishes if you prefer to pair your own.
