Description

Three arms rise from a central stem and spread beneath a wide organza shade, so what reaches the room is filtered and soft rather than a hard downward beam. The shade is 45cm across and shallow in profile, a broad disc of sheer fabric that glows gently once lit. Frame and shade are both black, the metal in a matt finish that keeps highlights low. Each arm carries an E14 candle socket, and we would fit LED candle lamps here.

We reach for this over a dining table or a kitchen island, where the width of the shade suits a long surface. It works equally well in a sitting room, above a low table or in a bay window, and the drop adjusts across a wide span, so it can hang generously or be brought up short under a modest ceiling. Fit dimmable lamps and it will run down to a low, warm level in the evening, though the dimmer itself is a separate purchase. Keep it to rooms indoors that stay dry and warm; a bathroom or a covered porch is not its place.

The shade is organza, a fine open weave that passes light while softening it, and the arms and stem are metal in matt black. Sheer fabric shows dust, so go over it now and then with a soft brush or the low setting on a vacuum; the metalwork asks for no more than a dry cloth, with the power off and the lamps cool. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included: clear candle LEDs will pick out the weave, while pearl ones give a more even glow.
