Description

Three candle lamps sit under a single wide shade here, its outer face finished in gold foil and its inside lined in white so the light comes back soft and even rather than glaring. The shade is 45cm across, carried on a slender satin nickel column that brings the whole lamp to 1.6m. A foot switch on the base does the switching, so it is on and off with a nudge of your toe.

We would put this beside an armchair or at the end of a sofa, where the shade sits high enough to spread light across a whole seating area instead of pooling it on one table top. It suits sitting rooms, wide landings and bedrooms with space for a tall silhouette. It takes small candle lamps, and it will dim if you pair dimmable ones with a compatible dimmer, which is worth doing in a room you use late in the evening. It is one we reach for when a reading corner needs proper light but there is no surface to stand a table lamp on.

The metalwork is finished in satin nickel with a quiet sheen that reads as neutral against most walls, and the gold foil shade warms the whole thing without shouting. It is double insulated. For upkeep, run a dry duster over the shade in the direction of the foil and give the column an occasional buff with a soft cloth; skip sprays and damp wipes on the gold surface. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, well away from bathroom splashes and unheated porches. It carries a one year warranty. Set it near a mirror or a pale wall and the lining bounces the light further than you would expect from three small lamps. Lamps are not included.
