Description

A wide, shallow drum shade sits on a slender antique brass column, giving a broad wash of light rather than a narrow beam. Three E14 candle sockets sit inside the shade, so the glow spreads evenly across the faux silk instead of pooling in one place. The outer face is taupe, lined in halo gold, which warms everything falling below it. A foot switch on the flex saves you reaching down to the base. At 1.6m it reads tall without crowding the furniture around it.

We would put this at the end of a sofa or beside a wing chair, where a reading corner wants light at head height and a table lamp would sit too low. It works in a sitting room, a bedroom corner or a home study, and the pale face of the shade keeps it quiet against most walls. The foot switch is the reason we suggest it for rooms where the nearest socket ends up behind the furniture. Dimming is possible with suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer, though neither of those comes with it. Keep it to dry indoor rooms.

The frame is metal throughout, finished in antique brass so the tone shifts gently across the column and base, and the lamp is double insulated in use. The shade is faux silk over its full depth, taupe outside and gold within. For care, take a soft brush to the fabric now and then and a dry cloth to the brasswork; nothing damp, and no polish on the finish. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included, and we would fit LED candles here to keep the heads discreet inside the shade.
