Description

Three E14 candle lamps sit behind one wide drum of faux silk, dual layered in nude beige, so the light leaves the shade soft and even rather than sharp. The 45cm shade is a generous width for a floor lamp, and it balances a slim antique brass column standing on a round base in the same finish. A foot switch on the flex means you can turn it on as you sit down, with no reaching up to the stem.

It gives enough spread to serve as the main light in a sitting room with no central pendant, and it works just as well beside a sofa, behind an armchair, or in a bedroom corner where there is no space for a table. At just over 1.6m tall, the shade sits above eye level once you are seated, so you read by the light rather than into it. We would fit warm white LED candles here and add a compatible dimmer if you want the level to come down in the evening.

The faux silk is worked over a double thickness, which gives the shade depth in daylight and a warm cast when lit, while the metalwork carries an antique brass tone with that slightly darkened, softened look that sits happily with older furniture and painted walls. The lamp is double insulated. To keep it well, lift dust from the fabric with a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum on its lowest setting, and keep damp cloths away from it; the brass asks for nothing more than an occasional dry buff. It carries a one year warranty. Where a tall shade would look heavy, this is the shape we reach for instead. Lamps are not included.
