Description

The Baltimore is a 550mm outdoor wall lantern with a weathered bronze cast aluminium frame, amber-tinted blown glass and period scroll detailing. The lantern houses a single E27 bulb behind the amber glass (sold separately), which diffuses warm light across entrance porches, garden walls and covered patios. The IP44 rating protects against splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for sheltered outdoor positions.

Designed for traditional, Victorian and Arts & Crafts architecture, the Baltimore pairs a tall lantern profile with a scrolling wall bracket that projects 220mm from the mounting surface. The scroll metalwork includes leaf finials at the crown and base, creating visual detail that reads clearly from street level. The 225mm width suits standard front door frames and garden wall positions without overwhelming narrow elevations.

The weathered bronze finish is applied over cast aluminium, giving the appearance of aged ironwork without the weight or maintenance requirements of true wrought iron. The amber-tinted blown glass softens the light output and adds a warm glow under evening use, particularly when paired with vintage Edison-style LED filament bulbs. The lantern weighs approximately 2.5kg and mounts to a standard outdoor electrical box via a concealed back plate.

The Baltimore range includes matching hanging lanterns and wall lanterns in small, medium and large sizes, allowing consistent exterior lighting across multiple doorways or garden features. The medium size shown here works as a primary entrance light for typical UK residential front doors and as accent lighting for garden walls, gazebos and covered seating areas.

What IP rating does the Baltimore carry?

IP44, which protects against splashing water from any direction. This makes it suitable for covered porches, sheltered doorways and garden walls with overhead protection, but not for fully exposed positions subject to driving rain or submersion.

What bulb does it take?

A standard E27 Edison screw bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. For a traditional lantern aesthetic, consider a warm-white LED filament bulb at 2200K-2700K and 6-8W, which gives the appearance of vintage gas lighting through the amber glass.

How is the weathered bronze finish maintained?

The finish is applied over cast aluminium, which does not rust. Wipe occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust and pollen. The weathered patina is intentional and does not require polishing or protective treatments.

Can it be fitted to brick or stone walls?

Yes. The lantern mounts to a standard outdoor electrical back box, which can be fixed to brick, stone, render or timber using appropriate wall plugs and fixings for the substrate. The back plate conceals the electrical box once fitted.
