Description
The Baltimore is a large outdoor wall lantern with a weathered bronze finish, cast scroll detailing and amber-tinted blown glass. The lantern housing stands approximately 500mm tall and features a traditional coach-style design with decorative leaf finials at the top and base, and a curved wall bracket with matching scroll terminals. A single E27 bulb fitting sits inside the glass (bulb sold separately).
Designed for front doors, porch areas, garage entrances and garden walls requiring substantial lighting presence, the Baltimore suits traditional, period and country-style exteriors. The IP44 rating protects the internal fitting from rain and splashing but does not make the lantern fully submersible, so it should be mounted under some overhang or where direct downpour does not accumulate inside the glass housing. The large scale works on two-storey frontages and broader wall spans where smaller lanterns would appear undersized.
The weathered bronze finish is applied as a hand-rubbed patina over the cast metal frame, giving tonal variation across the scrollwork and highlighting the raised leaf and shell details. The amber-tinted glass softens the light output from the bulb, casting a warm glow onto adjacent walls and pathways. This tone works particularly well with warm white LED bulbs in the 2200K-2700K range, which pair naturally with the bronze and amber palette.
The Baltimore range from Elstead Lighting also includes pedestal mounts, lamp-post configurations and suspended chain lanterns in matching finish and glass style, allowing multiple fixtures to be coordinated across a property entrance or garden lighting scheme.
Frequently Asked
What bulb does the Baltimore take?
The lantern uses a single E27 Edison screw bulb. Bulbs are sold separately. Most installations use a 6-10W warm white LED bulb to pair with the amber glass tone.
Can it be used in exposed coastal areas?
The IP44 rating protects against rain and splashing, but coastal installations with salt spray may accelerate weathering of the bronze finish. If installing within 500m of saltwater, rinse the fixture periodically with fresh water to slow corrosion.
How is the weathered bronze maintained?
The patina finish will continue to develop character over time with exposure to weather. To clean, wipe with a soft damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not use abrasive cleaners or metal polishes, as these will remove the patina.
What projection does it have from the wall?
The curved bracket projects approximately 300mm from the mounting surface to the centre of the glass housing. Allow clearance for the full projection when positioning near door swings or pathways.
