Description

The Baloon is a 32cm table lamp with a rounded opal glass shade sitting on a polished gold cylindrical base. The shade is a softly curved glass form with a top aperture, housing three G9 bulbs (sold separately) that diffuse through the opal glass to cast warm ambient light in a 360-degree pattern.

Designed for bedside tables, console tables and occasional surfaces where soft task or ambient lighting is needed, the Baloon suits modern and contemporary interiors where sculptural form and material quality matter. The 26cm shade diameter covers enough surface to read by without glare, while the opal diffusion prevents direct bulb visibility. The 2.44kg weight keeps it stable on typical furniture surfaces.

The polished gold finish on the base reflects surrounding light and pairs with warm metallics, brass hardware and neutral colour palettes. The opal glass has a smooth matte exterior surface that contrasts with the high-gloss base. Schuller manufactures the Baloon in Spain, where the opal glass is hand-blown before being paired with the machined metal base. The IP20 rating restricts use to dry indoor locations only.

What bulbs does it take?

The Baloon takes three G9 capsule bulbs, each rated up to 28W halogen or LED equivalent. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit 3-4W LED G9 bulbs in warm white (2700K-3000K) for adequate bedside or ambient lighting without overheating the shade.

Is it dimmable?

Dimmer compatibility depends on the bulbs fitted. G9 LED bulbs vary in dimmer compatibility — check the bulb packaging for dimmer-rated versions if pairing with a dimmer switch.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

No. The IP20 rating limits the Baloon to dry indoor locations only. It is not suitable for bathrooms, outdoor use or any location where moisture or splashing may occur.

How is the opal glass cleaned?

Wipe the opal glass shade with a dry microfibre cloth when the lamp is switched off and cool. For stubborn marks, a barely-damp cloth with distilled water is acceptable, but avoid soaking the glass or using spray cleaners near the electrical fittings. The polished gold base can be wiped with a soft dry cloth to remove fingerprints.
