Description
Plafond Backlight String is a ceiling light in white. A shallow white ring sitting tight against the ceiling, its outer side a plain straight band and its underside a broad lit face with a plain white disc set into the middle, so the light reads as a halo round a solid centre. A second, narrower ring stands proud of the top face, so light escapes upward as well as down. The edge is square and crisp and the white is matt throughout. There is no pattern and no fixing visible from below. It measures 30cm across and 6.5cm tall, in plastic and metal.
Mounted flush it clears a doorway and a low ceiling, so a corridor, a landing or a small bedroom is its territory, and it lights the whole room evenly rather than pooling on one surface. It is the light you put in first and stop noticing, which is the point of a flush fitting: it does the general lighting so the lamps in the room can do the rest.
The LED is built in at 25W, so there is no bulb to buy and none to fit. It has 3 brightness settings, changed by switching off at the wall and straight back on, so no dimmer is needed. It is rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms. It carries a G energy label.

Frequently Asked
Do I need to buy a bulb?
No. The LED is built into the fitting, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to fit.
What happens when the LED fails?
The fitting is replaced rather than relamped. At 25W and normal domestic use that is many years away.
How do I change the brightness?
Switch off at the wall and straight back on. Each flick moves it to the next setting. No dimmer is needed.
Will it work on a dimmer?
It does not need one, and it should not be fitted to one. Brightness is controlled from the wall switch instead.
How bright is it at full?
Comparable to a 75W to 100W incandescent bulb at full, with the lower settings for evenings and a night light.
Can it go in a bathroom?
No. It is IP20, which covers dry interior rooms only. A bathroom needs IP44 or better.
