Description

The AV:Link 4K HDMI Digital Audio Extractor splits an HDMI signal into separate video and audio outputs, sending the video onwards via HDMI while extracting the audio via either a Toslink optical port or a 3.5mm stereo jack. The device accepts one HDMI input supporting resolutions up to 3840 x 2160 at 30Hz (HDMI 1.4b, HDCP 1.4), passes that video signal through to its HDMI output port, and simultaneously routes the embedded audio to both the Toslink and 3.5mm outputs on the front panel.

Designed for situations where a display lacks usable audio outputs — common with projectors, older monitors, and some televisions — the extractor sits inline between the source device (games console, Blu-ray player, streaming box, set-top box) and the display. The Toslink output connects to AV receivers, soundbars or active speakers with optical inputs, while the 3.5mm output handles wired headphones, powered desktop speakers, or analogue stereo amplifiers. Both outputs are live simultaneously, though most users will connect only one at a time.

The extractor measures 60 x 58 x 22mm and draws power via a micro-USB port on the side panel (cable included, USB mains adapter not included — any standard 5V USB charger or spare USB port on a TV or console will power the unit). The black metal enclosure has no active cooling and runs silently. Audio formats supported include stereo PCM, DSD and HBR (high bit-rate audio passthrough for formats like Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio when output via Toslink to a compatible receiver).

The device is plug-and-play with no driver installation or configuration required. HDMI and audio sync is maintained without perceptible delay, making the extractor suitable for gaming where audio lag would disrupt gameplay. Weight is 102g.

What powers the unit?
