Description

The AV:Link 3-port mini USB-A hub expands a single USB Type-A port on a laptop or desktop PC into three additional ports: one USB 3.2 port supporting data transfer up to 5Gbps, and two USB 2.0 ports supporting up to 480Mbps each. The hub connects via an integrated USB 3.2 Type-A male connector and requires no external power supply or driver installation.

Designed for mobile working and hot-desking environments where port availability is limited, the hub adds capacity for USB peripherals including external hard drives, keyboards, mice, USB sticks and card readers. The single USB 3.2 port handles faster data transfer for external storage drives and video capture devices, while the two USB 2.0 ports serve lower-bandwidth peripherals like keyboards and wireless dongles. All three ports support simultaneous connections without requiring the user to disconnect and swap devices.

The hub measures 55mm long, 24mm wide and 20mm deep, weighing 16g. The matte black ABS housing includes ventilation slots on the side panel to dissipate heat during extended data transfer sessions. The compact footprint means the hub can sit in a laptop bag side pocket or cable organiser without taking up space reserved for larger peripherals. Plug-and-play functionality works across Windows, macOS and Linux without software installation — the hub draws power through the host USB port and becomes active immediately on connection.

Frequently Asked

Does it need external power?

No. The hub is bus-powered, drawing current through the host USB 3.2 port on the connected laptop or PC. If you connect high-draw peripherals like external hard drives to all three ports simultaneously, the host port must supply sufficient current — most modern laptops can handle this, but older or low-power USB ports may require you to reduce the number of active devices.

What's the difference between the USB 3.2 port and the USB 2.0 ports?

The single USB 3.2 port supports data transfer up to 5Gbps (5000 megabits per second), making it suitable for external SSDs, high-speed USB sticks and video capture devices. The two USB 2.0 ports support up to 480Mbps (480 megabits per second), which is sufficient for keyboards, mice, wireless dongles, printers and lower-speed storage devices.

Is it compatible with USB-C laptops?

Not directly. The hub has a USB Type-A male connector and is designed for standard rectangular USB Type-A ports. If your laptop only has USB-C ports, you will need a USB-C to USB-A adapter to use this hub.

Can all three ports be used at once?

Yes. All three ports support simultaneous connections. The total bandwidth is shared across connected devices, so if you run a large file transfer on the USB 3.2 port while using the USB 2.0 ports, the USB 3.2 transfer gets priority bandwidth and the USB 2.0 ports operate within their 480Mbps limit.
