Austen Wall Light - Polished Brass

The Austen is a single-light wall light built from solid brass with a polished brass finish, paired with a fluted clear glass shade. The glass shade features vertical ribbing that catches and refracts light when the fitting is lit, while the brass mount comprises a circular backplate, a short arm, and a turned brass collar that holds the glass in place. The fitting carries an IP44 rating, making it suitable for bathroom zones 2 and 3.

Designed for bathrooms, hallways and bedrooms where traditional detailing is preferred, the Austen provides localised light at mirror height or flanking positions either side of a bath or vanity unit. The 173mm projection from the wall and 217mm overall height suit standard 2.4m ceiling heights without the shade sitting too close to head height. The included 3W LED G9 bulb produces warm 3000K light through the fluted glass, giving enough output for close-range tasks like shaving or applying makeup without overpowering smaller rooms.

The solid brass construction gives the fitting a substantial feel and ensures long-term durability in humid environments where plated finishes often deteriorate. The polished brass develops a natural patina over time unless regularly buffed, allowing the finish to mellow in character. The fluted glass shade diffuses the G9 bulb while adding period detail that pairs well with Victorian, Edwardian and traditional bathroom schemes.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

Yes. The IP44 rating makes the Austen suitable for bathroom zones 2 and 3, meaning it can be installed outside the shower/bath enclosure but within the bathroom perimeter. It is not rated for use directly above a bath or inside a shower enclosure (which require IP65 or higher).

Does it come with a bulb?

Yes. The Austen includes a 3W LED G9 bulb at 3000K (warm white). The bulb is user-replaceable if it fails or if you prefer a different colour temperature.

Is the polished brass lacquered or will it tarnish?

Solid brass naturally develops a patina over time when exposed to moisture and air. If you prefer to maintain the high-polish finish, occasional buffing with a soft cloth and brass cleaner will restore the shine. The brass is not plated, so there is no risk of the finish flaking or peeling.

What's the light output?

The included 3W LED G9 provides approximately 250-300 lumens at 3000K, which is sufficient for close-range task lighting at mirror height but not bright enough to act as the sole light source in a larger bathroom. Most installations use two Austen fittings flanking a mirror or pair them with ceiling downlights.
