Description

The Aspen is a 100cm round wall mirror with a 6cm-deep frame built from hand-cut bone inlay set in white resin. Each piece of bone is individually shaped and positioned to create an asymmetrical geometric pattern across the circular frame, with natural tonal variation between pieces ranging from pure white to warm cream depending on the section of bone used.

Designed as a statement wall piece for hallways, above console tables, or in bedrooms and dressing rooms, the mirror sits 6cm proud of the wall once mounted. The 100cm diameter provides a full-length reflection when mounted at head height, or functions as a large accent mirror in living spaces. At 9kg the mirror requires two-person handling and professional wall mounting into solid fixings — standard picture hooks are not sufficient.

The bone inlay technique originates in traditional Indian craft, where camel bone is cut into small geometric shapes, hand-set into carved wooden channels, then sealed with resin and polished. The result is a surface with a subtle lustre similar to mother-of-pearl, with each tile catching light differently depending on viewing angle. The white colour palette pairs with both warm timber interiors and cooler monochrome schemes, while the asymmetrical pattern prevents the piece reading as overly formal.

Frequently Asked

How is the mirror mounted?

The mirror weighs 9kg and requires professional installation into solid wall fixings. Two D-rings or a heavy-duty hanging plate are typically used, fixed into wall plugs rated for at least 15kg load. Standard picture hooks are not suitable.

Does the bone colour vary between mirrors?

Yes. Each piece of bone is hand-cut from natural material, so tonal variation between pure white and warm cream is normal. The asymmetrical pattern also means the distribution of bone pieces differs slightly between individual mirrors.

How is bone inlay cleaned?

Wipe gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth. For smudges or fingerprints, a barely-damp cloth is acceptable, but avoid soaking the frame and do not use glass cleaner or household sprays on the bone inlay surface itself. Clean the mirror glass separately with standard glass cleaner applied to a cloth, not sprayed directly.

Can it be hung in a bathroom?

Bone inlay is porous and not suited to high-humidity environments. The mirror is best placed in dry rooms away from direct moisture exposure. Occasional bathroom humidity is tolerable, but avoid positioning above sinks or near showers.
