Description

The Ashland Bay is a 305mm diameter outdoor ceiling flush fitting in weathered zinc with a clear seeded glass drum. Two E27 bulbs (sold separately, max 60W each) sit inside the glass enclosure, which is held by a weathered zinc frame with visible fixings at four points around the circumference. The IP44 rating protects against dust and water splashes, making the fitting suitable for covered porches, carports, and exterior entryways where direct rainfall is not an issue.

Designed for outdoor spaces with ceiling heights below 2.4m where a pendant would hang too low, the 152mm vertical projection keeps the fitting close to the ceiling surface while the glass drum projects downward and outward to throw light in all directions. The clear seeded glass has visible bubbles and texture that diffuse the light from the bulbs without blocking too much output, giving a softer glow than plain glass while still maintaining good downlight for doorways and steps.

The weathered zinc finish is a mid-grey tone with darker patination around edges and recesses, mimicking the natural oxidation of aged zinc cladding. This pairs well with colonial, traditional and cottage-style exteriors, and complements stone, timber and painted render finishes. The fitting accepts standard E27 LED, halogen or filament bulbs, with many users choosing warm-white LED filament bulbs to match the vintage aesthetic of the seeded glass and aged metalwork.

Frequently Asked

What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?

IP44 protects against solid objects larger than 1mm (dust and small debris) and water splashes from any direction. This fitting is suitable for covered porches, carports, and exterior doorways where it is sheltered from direct rainfall but exposed to wind-driven moisture. It should not be installed in fully exposed positions where rain hits the fitting directly.

What bulbs does it take?

Two E27 (Edison screw) bulbs, each rated up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with 6-10W warm-white LED filament bulbs (2700K-3000K) to match the vintage aesthetic of the seeded glass and weathered zinc frame.

Is the glass removable for cleaning?

Yes. The glass drum is held by the weathered zinc frame, which unscrews from the ceiling backplate. This allows the glass to be removed for cleaning the interior and replacing bulbs.

What ceiling height does it suit?

The 152mm projection makes this fitting suitable for low ceilings and covered outdoor spaces where a pendant would hang too far down. It works well in areas with ceiling heights from 2.1m upwards, providing downlight without protruding excessively into the headroom.
