Description
The Ashland Bay is a 305mm diameter outdoor ceiling flush fitting with a burnished bronze frame and clear seeded glass drum, housing two E27 bulb holders behind IP44-rated seals. The shallow 152mm fitting height allows it to sit close to the ceiling, making it suitable for covered porches, carports, and patio overhangs where headroom is limited or a low-profile aesthetic is preferred.
Designed for covered outdoor locations rather than fully exposed positions, the IP44 rating protects against solid objects above 1mm and water splashes from any direction, which covers typical rain ingress under a porch roof or patio cover. The two E27 sockets accept standard screw-fit bulbs up to 60W each (sold separately), allowing flexibility to use warm-white LED filament bulbs for a traditional look or higher-output LED omni bulbs for brighter task lighting near doorways.
The burnished bronze finish shows as a dark, weathered brown-bronze with subtle darker patina around the edges and fastening points, giving the fitting a settled, aged appearance rather than a bright metallic sheen. The clear seeded glass has a light bubble texture throughout, which diffuses light softly without blocking it entirely, casting a gentle glow across ceiling planes and downward onto porch floors. The glass is secured to the frame by three visible screws on the underside, allowing the drum to be removed for bulb changes or cleaning.
The fitting mounts directly to a standard outdoor ceiling electrical box using a circular backplate approximately 140mm in diameter. Total projection from the ceiling once installed is 152mm, keeping the fixture well within the clearance limits for most porch ceilings of 2.4m or higher. The burnished finish pairs comfortably with traditional brick, painted weatherboard, and stone exteriors, and the colonial-influenced drum style suits period properties and heritage restoration projects.

Frequently Asked
Can this be used in fully exposed outdoor positions?
The IP44 rating protects against water splashes but not sustained rain or direct hose jets. Install under a porch roof, carport canopy, or patio cover where the fitting is sheltered from direct rainfall. Fully exposed positions (wall-mounted gable ends, open patios) need a higher IP rating such as IP65.
What bulbs does it take?
Two E27 (Edison screw) bulbs up to 60W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit warm-white LED filament bulbs between 6-8W and 2700K for a traditional amber glow through the seeded glass.
How is the glass drum removed?
Three visible screws on the underside of the fitting secure the glass drum to the burnished bronze frame. Unscrew these to lower the glass for bulb changes or cleaning, then re-secure with the same screws.
What ceiling height is needed?
The 152mm projection suits porch ceilings of 2.4m or higher. Lower ceilings can still accommodate the fitting, but anyone taller than average may need to duck slightly when passing directly underneath.
