Description
The Ashland Bay is a 327mm outdoor chain lantern built around a cylindrical cage frame in burnished bronze, enclosing clear seeded glass panels on all sides. A single E27 bulb fitting sits at the centre, visible through the glass. The lantern hangs from a matching burnished bronze chain (adjustable from 432mm to 2306mm drop) and a 154mm diameter ceiling canopy, giving it a suspended presence suitable for covered porches, entryways and pergolas.
Designed for outdoor installation under eaves or covered structures, the Ashland Bay carries an IP44 rating, protecting against rain splash and wind-driven moisture but requiring overhead shelter from direct downpours. The seeded glass texture diffuses the bulb's output slightly while allowing the filament to remain visible, making the lantern compatible with decorative Edison-style LED bulbs or standard E27 bulbs up to 60W (sold separately). The 154mm width and 327mm height make this the smaller variant in the Ashland Bay family, suited to side entrances, narrower porches and garden pergolas where a larger lantern would overwhelm the space.
The burnished bronze finish is a darker, warmer tone than standard oil-rubbed bronze, with a subtle grain and low-sheen surface that resists fingerprints and weathers gracefully outdoors. The seeded glass is clear with a stippled interior surface that catches and refracts light, creating texture when the lantern is lit. The chain allows the drop to be customised on installation — a 600-800mm drop suits standard porch ceilings of 2.4-2.6m height, while the full 2306mm extension is available for taller covered entrances or two-storey porches.

Frequently Asked
What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?
IP44 provides protection against rain splash and solid objects above 1mm, but the lantern requires overhead shelter such as a porch roof, eave overhang or pergola canopy. It is not suitable for fully exposed positions where rain would fall directly onto the top of the lantern.
What bulb should I use?
The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Most users pair this with a 4-8W LED filament bulb in warm white (2700K) to suit the traditional styling. Bulbs are sold separately.
Can the chain length be adjusted?
Yes. The chain is 1829mm long and the drop can be set anywhere between 432mm and 2306mm during installation by removing excess chain links. A typical porch installation uses 600-800mm drop.
How is the seeded glass cleaned?
The glass panels are removable for cleaning. Wipe with a damp microfibre cloth and mild glass cleaner. The stippled interior surface may collect dust over time — clean annually or when the light output appears noticeably reduced.
