Description
The Armand is a 3 light semi-flush ceiling light built on three curved aged brass arms extending from a charcoal black central hub and canopy. Each arm holds a hand-blown clear glass shade shaped like an inverted bell, with a black metal collar between the glass and the brass arm. The shades take E14 candle bulbs (sold separately), visible through the clear glass when lit.
Designed for rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m to 2.7m where a full drop pendant would hang too low, the semi-flush configuration positions the glass shades 200-250mm below the ceiling, giving presence without intruding on head clearance. The fitting suits dining rooms, entrance halls and bedrooms where a chandelier effect is wanted without the space for a 600mm+ drop. The aged brass arms curve outward symmetrically, spreading the three shades across a 560mm diameter footprint.
The aged brass finish on the arms has been darkened and antiqued to show tonal variation rather than a uniform shine, giving warmth without the brightness of polished brass. The charcoal black canopy and collars create contrast and ground the brass visually, preventing the fitting from reading as entirely gold-toned. The clear glass shades expose the bulb filament directly, so pairing with decorative filament LED candles (2700K warm white) produces a softer ambient effect than frosted glass would allow.
The Armand sits within Elstead Lighting's traditional-contemporary crossover range, pairing classical chandelier structure with the industrial material contrast of aged brass against matt black metalwork. The hand-blown glass shades vary slightly in wall thickness and exact profile between pieces, a feature of the glassblowing process rather than a defect.
Frequently Asked
What bulbs does the Armand take?
The fitting takes three E14 candle bulbs up to 60W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with decorative filament LED candles at 4-6W and 2700K for a warm ambient glow visible through the clear glass.
What ceiling height is needed?
The semi-flush design positions the glass shades approximately 200-250mm below the ceiling, making it suitable for rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m to 2.7m. In rooms with ceilings above 2.7m a full drop pendant from the same range may be a better visual match.
Is it dimmable?
Dimmer compatibility depends on the bulbs you fit. LED candle bulbs marked as dimmable will work with a compatible LED dimmer switch. Non-dimmable bulbs will not respond to a dimmer and may flicker or fail if fitted to one.
How is the aged brass finish maintained?
The aged brass has been intentionally darkened and antiqued, so it should not be polished. Wipe gently with a dry microfibre cloth to remove dust. Avoid metal polishes or abrasive cleaners, which will strip the aged patina and leave the brass looking newly polished.
