Description

The Kichler Argyle is a single-light outdoor wall lantern with seeded glass panels held within a weathered zinc metal frame featuring diagonal crossbar bracing. The lantern measures 322mm high by 204mm wide with a 234mm projection from the wall, and takes one E27 bulb up to 60W (sold separately). The IP44 rating provides protection against dust and rain, making it suitable for exposed UK exterior walls.

Designed for mounting beside front doors, porch entries, garage doorways and garden walls, the Argyle provides accent lighting and wayfinding for paths and steps after dark. The seeded glass diffuses the light from the bulb inside, creating a textured glow that softens hard shadows while maintaining enough clarity to illuminate immediate surroundings. The crossbar frame gives the lantern structural reinforcement and adds a decorative element that references traditional carriage lamp designs.

The weathered zinc finish is a mid-grey tone with a slightly mottled surface texture that mimics naturally aged galvanised metal. This finish sits comfortably alongside painted masonry, brick, render and timber cladding in both traditional and modern builds. The metal frame is powder-coated steel, giving corrosion resistance beyond the aesthetic weathering effect. The top cap and base plate seal the lantern against rain entering the lamp holder chamber.

The wall plate fixes to a standard UK single-gang 25mm back box or directly to brick/masonry using the supplied fixings. The lantern accepts E27 LED, halogen or filament bulbs, giving flexibility to choose colour temperature and brightness to suit the setting. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K to match the vintage-inspired aesthetic of the seeded glass.

Is this suitable for coastal locations?

The IP44 rating and powder-coated steel construction provide good weather resistance for most UK exterior locations. In salt-air coastal environments the finish may show accelerated weathering over time, which may suit the aesthetic or may require occasional cleaning with fresh water to slow corrosion.

What bulb should I use?

The lantern takes one E27 bulb up to 60W. Most users choose a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K to match the vintage look of the seeded glass. Clear or amber-tinted filament bulbs work particularly well with the textured glass.

Can it be installed upside down or horizontally?

The lantern is designed for upright vertical wall mounting only. The top cap is sealed to prevent rain entering the lamp chamber, and inverting the fitting would compromise the IP44 rating.

Does the seeded glass affect light output?

The seeded glass diffuses and softens the light, reducing sharp shadows and glare. This creates a warmer ambient effect but will reduce the overall lux output compared to a clear glass lantern with the same bulb. Choose a slightly higher wattage LED if maximum illumination is needed.
