Description
The APUS is a recessed LED step light built for low-level guidance, drawing just 0.8W to put out 14 lumens of 4000K cool white light. Often called a step light in the UK and a recessed stair light in the US, it sits flush in the wall on a 12V DC supply and carries a built-in PIR sensor, so the light wakes as someone approaches and settles again once the area is clear. The square 75mm face keeps the fitting discreet, throwing a soft pool of light across the tread or floor immediately below rather than lighting the wider room.
Designed for indoor stairways, hallways and corridors, the APUS marks the edge of a step or the line of a passage without the glare of a full ceiling fitting. Its output is deliberately modest, so think of it as wayfinding rather than ambient lighting: it grazes the surface just below to show where the floor changes level, which is exactly what you want on a flight of stairs at night. The PIR element makes it well suited to a landing or a route that only needs light when it is being used, and several units can be run along a staircase from a common 12V supply for an even rhythm of marker points.
Construction is polished stainless steel paired with a plastic body, finished in stainless steel for a clean recessed face. It runs on 12V DC, so a suitable driver or transformer is needed rather than a direct mains connection, and the integrated LED is rated for 50,000 hours with no bulb to replace. The fitting is not dimmable and carries an IP20 rating, so keep it to dry indoor positions, clear of bathrooms and any exposed location. Wipe the steel face occasionally with a soft dry cloth to keep the output crisp. The APUS sits within our wider Apus range of recessed wall and step fittings.

Frequently Asked
Does the APUS need a separate 12V transformer or driver?
Yes. The APUS runs on 12V DC rather than mains voltage, so it must be wired to a suitable 12V driver or transformer. Several units can share one supply where it is correctly rated for the combined load.
How is the APUS installed?
It is a recessed fitting that mounts into the wall, sitting flush with the surface for a discreet finish. The square body measures 75 × 23 × 75 mm, so the wall recess and back box should be sized to suit before fixing.
Is the APUS suitable for outdoor or bathroom use?
No. The APUS is rated IP20, which covers dry indoor locations only. Keep it to stairs, hallways and corridors indoors, and do not fit it in a bathroom, porch or any exposed or damp position.
What colour of light does it give and is it dimmable?
The integrated LED produces a 4000K cool white tone with a CRI of Ra 80, giving a clean, neutral marker light. It is not dimmable, so it runs at its fixed 0.8W output whenever the PIR sensor is triggered.
