Description
The APUS is a recessed LED step light that runs on a 12V DC supply and draws just 0.8W. Set into the wall low down, it casts a soft 14 lumen wash of cool white 4000K light across the tread or floor below, marking the edge of a step without throwing glare up at eye level. Across the Atlantic this kind of low-level marker is usually called a step light too, so the term carries across both markets. The square 75 by 75 mm faceplate sits flush against the wall surface for a tidy, low-profile finish.
Because it is a marker rather than a room light, the APUS is about guiding the eye rather than lighting an area, so it suits indoor staircases, split-level hallways and the foot of a flight where a tread needs picking out in the dark. A run of several units spaced down a staircase gives even, repeated marking along the route, with each fitting throwing a contained pool of light onto the step it sits above. With an IP20 rating it is for dry indoor positions only, so keep it clear of bathrooms, porches and any outdoor or damp location. The recessed mounting means it is intended for installation during a build or refurbishment, where a wall back-box can be set in place.
Built from polished stainless steel with a plastic body, the APUS has a square faceplate in a stainless steel finish that wipes clean with a soft damp cloth. It is rated IP20 and recesses into the wall via a back-box, and it is not dimmable, running at a fixed output from its 12V DC feed. A separate 12V driver or transformer is needed to step mains voltage down to the 12V the fitting requires. The rated lifespan is 50,000 hours, and the wider Apus range includes matching step fittings for laying out a consistent run.

Frequently Asked
Does the APUS need a transformer or driver?
Yes. It runs on 12V DC, so it needs a separate 12V driver or transformer to step the mains supply down. Several units can usually be wired to a single suitably rated 12V supply along a staircase run.
Can the APUS be used outdoors?
No. It is rated IP20, which means it is for dry indoor use only. Keep it clear of bathrooms, porches, garages and any outdoor or damp setting, and use it for indoor stairs and hallways instead.
How is the APUS installed?
It is a recessed wall fitting, so it sets flush into the wall via a back-box, usually fitted low down beside a step. This makes it best suited to a build or refurbishment where the wall can be prepared for the recess.
How do I clean the faceplate?
Wipe the polished stainless steel faceplate with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry it off. Avoid abrasive pads or harsh cleaners, which can mark the steel finish over time.
