Description
The APUS is a recessed LED step light built for low-level guidance along indoor stairs, landings and corridors. It draws just 0.8W from a 12V DC supply and gives 14 lumens at 4000K cool white, a clean neutral tone that picks out tread edges and floor lines without glare at eye level. A built-in PIR sensor brings the light up only when movement is detected nearby, so the fitting stays dark until someone approaches. In the US this style of fitting is usually called a recessed stair light or step light, set into the wall at low level rather than mounted on the surface.
The square 75mm face suits stairwells, hallways and basement steps where a soft pool of light at floor level helps with safe footing after dark. Because it puts out 14 lumens it is not meant to light a whole room; instead it marks the route and grazes the immediate tread or skirting, so plan it as part of a run of fittings spaced along a staircase rather than as a single source. The PIR action makes it well suited to night-time landings and walk-through spaces, where light is wanted briefly and hands-free. Mounted at shin or ankle height, it casts its output downward and forward across the step in front of it.
The body pairs polished stainless steel with a plastic housing and carries an IP20 rating, so it is for dry indoor positions only and should be kept clear of bathrooms, damp areas and any outdoor location. It recesses into the wall via a square cut-out, sitting flush once installed, and runs from a 12V DC driver that must be provided to suit the circuit. The integrated LED is rated for 50,000 hours and is not dimmable, with detection handled automatically by the PIR. The finish is black. The Apus range includes further low-level fittings in matching styles to light a full flight consistently.

Frequently Asked
Does it need a 12V transformer or driver?
Yes. The APUS runs on 12V DC, so it must be wired through a suitable 12V driver or transformer rather than connected straight to the mains. Size the driver to cover this fitting and any others on the same run, allowing 0.8W per unit.
Can it be used outdoors or in a bathroom?
No. The APUS is rated IP20, which means dry indoor use only. Keep it out of bathrooms, damp utility areas and any outdoor or sheltered-outdoor position; choose a higher IP-rated fitting for those locations.
How is it installed?
It is a recessed mount that sets into the wall through a square cut-out, finishing flush with the surface. Fitting it at low level, around shin or ankle height, gives the best wash of light across the step or floor below.
How should the face be cleaned?
Wipe the stainless steel and lens with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry it off afterwards. Avoid abrasive pads or solvents, which can mark the polished finish, and take care not to disturb the PIR window so detection stays reliable.
